Aunt Sentis's Fig Preserves Recipe~

 

Monica and I spent the day in the kitchen making

Fig and Peach Preserves.

We were honored that Bob's Aunt Sentis shared her recipe with us. I love that I have her 'fig and peach preserves' recipe in my 'recipe collection'. Aunt Sentis is a wonderful country cook.

Preserves are simple to make and fun!

We'll enjoy them throughout the winter months.

We divided 36 jars of fig and peach preserves between us.

 

Wash figs in soda water. Stem them.

Put in large kettle and cover with sugar.

Let set overnight.

 

Cook on low heat.
 
 

Follow the same recipe for peach preserves.

Stir so the figs won't stick. Cook until thick.

4 hours or more...

Then add 1 cup white karo.

Fill into sterilized jars. Wipe sealing edge clean and seal.

old cast iron sink...

Flowers in an old cast iron sink...

Monica's brother gave me this sink.

.......He's a plumber.

Every once and while they'll come across these cute old case iron sinks. They pull them out of house/bath remodels.

Monica and I think they are little jewels!

.....we LOVE them!

It's HEAVY!

Milton sit it on my sewing machine stand...

.....it worked perfect.

It has it's own 'drain' hole...

GREAT for flower growing!

Kathy's golf cart...

(it's not for playing golf)

Kathy rides around the neighborhood with her grandson Kyler and all her dogs in this golf cart.

 If you visit Kathy you'll get a ride.

It's FUN! 

She's also a 'Pet Setter' ...

taking care of the neighbors pets when they're out of town.

Master Bedroom~

Kathy and Pete's master bathroom...

The 'red' part of the walls are embossed/anaglypta wallpaper. Kathy and I have 'a thing' for this type of textured wallpaper.

It's also in Kathy's kitchen.

 Pete installed the sink in this pretty antique dresser...

....You won't see built-in cabinets.

Kathy uses furniture to house supplies.

Such as this...

...you'll find

towels, extra toilet paper, soaps, etc. in this old yellow cabinet.

There's a different piece in every window!

 

Here's Kathy's bird. 

The original owner named 'him/her' Harry. Kathy had her vet do a 'blood test' on the 'bird'...it's a GIRL. 

Harryetta.

She's been living with Kathy and Pete for YEARS...

...and talks and laughs EXACTLY like they do.

Harryetta barks like the dogs, rings like the telephone, and whistles. She has also pick up the sound from the key fob when they lock/unlock their cars.

There are 2 Parakeets, 8 adult Love Birds and 2 baby Love Birds living in there...

Old antique dresser Kathy painted. The top was found at an antique shop. Kathy painted it like the dresser and sit it on top.

This collection is 'retired' now. Kathy bought it 8 years ago.

It's a little bedroom right off the sunroom.

Update:

The night stand is a wooden frame of a vintage laundry cart. Kathy found two of them antique shopping. Kathy put the galvanized tub on it and had glass cut to fit.

Our cousin Ronnie gave Kathy this beautiful antique dresser. It belonged to his Mother, our Aunt Edna. I wish I had a better photo of it. My full length photo of it was blurry, DARN! = (

That good old chippy green shutter belonged to Ronnie's Dad, our Uncle Obie. Mother's brother....
