Just the way my Mama made it. I had some fried okra on Sunday..we went to The County Time Buffet in Lake City, Florida. It was good BUT I know it's not as good as what you and my Mama (God Rest) make. Wait a second...I've got to wipe the drool. ;-)

Oh, dear. You and I agree on so many things, I guess it was bound to happen that we'd disagree on something - and this is it. I just can't make myself eat this stuff. I can't help myself. I'm sure you do a great job of fixin' it up for those that love it, though.

Okay, Tina..you're killin' me with all this good food! But that's okay..I love it! :) I've never had fried okra. It looks so delicious!!

Woman...you need to get your own cooking show. :) You already have enough blog fans to fill up a studio!

You should have a garden Tina! We've still got tomatoes, cukes and cantaloupe. The last of the okra is in the fridge to be cooked tonight or tomorrow night.
Iron skillet for sure, but I skip the buttermilk step. The cornmeal will stick because of the gooey stuff in the okra.
Yum!

I LOVE Fried Okra!!! hated it as a kid.
How on earth do you stay slim...I look like a butterball Turkey and I do not even bake~lol
I want to try your cake recipe....I grew up on corn bread, pinto beans, biscuits and gravy, black eyed peas and okra too. Darn..now I am getting hungry for some of my Moms cooking or yours~lol
I just opened a little Etsy boutique....based on my southern upbringing and heritage.
Pop on over to my blog..I just did a post on it :) I will be back for dinner!

I love me some fried okra! I haven't tried the buttermilk step, but I will. Anything dipped in buttermilk first, then fried, is good! The fried pork chop comment reminded me to tell you how I fry my pork chops. I coat them in cornmeal instead of flour. My husband told me about this years ago and now this is the only way my family wants them. Thin pork chops work best. Try it!!

Hi Tina,
Gosh, I agree with everyone else...you
need your own cooking show. I love
fried okra. My favorite meal that I've
ever eaten (restaurants included) was
my dear Mama's fried chicken, fresh okra
(fried, of course)and butterbeans from
her garden, her potato salad, sliced
tomatoes, and cornbread. I can just
tast it now!

Hey Tina, it's me again. I just
thought of something funny that
happened to me as a child. When
my family and I visited my Aunt
and Uncle on their farm, I would
always chase my Aunt's chickens
when she would lie down for a short
nap after fixing a huge lunch. I
would chase those poor chickens and
my Aunt would yell at me to stop
chasing the chickens because they
wouldn't lay any eggs.....I got
"punished" by being sent to cut
the okra..........talk about prickly!!
Evidently, I wasn't too bright because
the very next afternoon, I would do
the same thing!!! Off to cut the okra
I went or worse....to the corncrib to
shell corn for the chickens!!! Yikes!
there are corn snakes in corn cribs!
Still not very bright!!! This happened
several times while we were there.
That's what you get, I suppose, when
you take a city girl to the country!

Okay, that's it! I'm squishing through the monitor right this second! LOL!

Oh Tina! That looks so good. I am growing okra this year here in Colorado. Just slow coming and not much, but enjoying every bit I get. I always cut mine up and add beaten egg and the cornmeal. I'm making some tomorrow and using your technique with buttermilk. I will fry it up and go to the garden and get myself a nice tomato, slice it up and that is all I need for happiness♥
Love your blog and all your recipes and finds. That new cabinet is awesome! Have a great weekend.
