A good chocolate cake? The best chocolate cake. My girls ask for Texas Sheet Cake for birthdays. This was my mother's favorite thing to bake. We do put pecans in the frosting, but that's just a preference. Yummy!!! Debbie

My hubby loves chocolate cake and this looks like an easy recipe. What size pan should one use - looks like a typo maybe - is it 9 inch square or 9 X 13?

I just read over the previous comments. Mishelle beat me to the question I was going to ask - with all the fabulous things you cook, how can you stay so tiny? I swear, I put on a pound in each thigh just reading about your sheetcake!

Jean Eakin

Tina, can I say how yummy it looks and sounds. I will have to try it when my hubby gets over the flu. Have a good evening.

I have this recipe and it is THE BEST chocolate cake ever, it never fails! One tip to make it richer, is to replace the cup of water with fresh strong coffee. it enhances the chocolate flavor.

I made your taco soup recipe and I must say it makes enough to feed a small Army! Very tasty too

Denise

Oh, my!! That is my favorite cake! It looks so good.

Rosemary~

Hi Tina,
Wowwee. You are too much. I want to know how you stay to thin also. Do you eat what you bake? LOL! Thank you for always sharing photos of each and every step of your recipes! This one looks like a keeper! Hugs, Rosemary~

You brought back some wonderful memories for me! My Mom used to make this cake when I was a kid. I still feel the warmth of the cake, the richness of the chocolate, and the smell rising from the warm cake.

Thanks for sharing the recipe. Hope all Moms will make the cake and the memories for their kids!

Malisa

CatHerder

omg...you just sucessfully ruined my new years resolution...i am SO making that!

Barbara

Morning Tina,
The cake looks and sounds great. I will try it. I thought of you several days ago in a gift shop, there was a set of dishes with white background and red stripes and they were not expensive. While I was standing there admiring them, some lady bought them and the owner said she could not get anymore. Sorry, you and my daughter would have loved them. I will keep watching..
Have a great day.

Di

Salivating here.... and Hubby loves any chocolate with chocolate with chocolate....

Debbi

Beautiful, Tina! How do you do all of this baking and stay so slim and trim???? I have that recipe and it is called "One Pan Brownies". My recipe says to bake them in a jelly roll pan. Yummy! Debbi

Rosie's Whimsy

I would take a slice of that with my morning coffee! Yummy!

Michelle

You're such a great baker, Tina! I probably shouldn't have looked at this before breakfast because now my tummy is screaming! Starbucks here I come! Have a day. :)

Shannon @ Silver Trappings

Mmmm, yeah! The absolute best! We eat this cake many times a year - any occasion that comes up that might "need" a dessert!

Jamie

This is like the most amazing chocolate recipe in the world!!! I make this from time to time and when I saw these pictures, my mouth watered!!! I was tempted to lick my screen to taste the delicious frosting!!! (smile) All I can say is YUMmmmmmmm!

Cami @ Heart-Shaped Rock Cottage

I've tried near every one of your recipes. This one I can taste w/ my mind!

andrea

My exact favorite recipe!! Except I use a jelly roll pan and then add pecans to the frosting. People beg me for it!
Now, if I could just be as skinny as you are, we'd be almost twins, lol!
I love your blog!

Yaya

Oh yes! It really is the BEST chocolate cake recipe, evah!! My Aunt Bobbie started making this cake soo many years ago and then I got the recipe from her and now my lil' grandangels ask for it upon arrival at Yaya's house. Enjoy! It is divine!

I love your blog! We just drove through Texas on our way back to Florida. We didn't have time to visit much on this trip, but it's a great place!

You should bring one of your great recipes over to my blog for "Tasty Tuesday!"

I lived in Texas most of my life....so I love everything Texas style! Thanks for the recipe! My birthday is coming up...I may need a chocolate cake.....Texas Style!

Susan Thompson

My late husband was from Texas. This was his all time favorite cake, but I knew it as a Phyllis cake. It was always what he asked for for his birthday. Last time I made it was the year after he died, on his birthday, January 4th. I am thinking I need to get out my recipe and make it again... the icing tastes just like my mom's fudge. Yummy!

Rhonda in Ok

I grew up in east Texas and remember when my mother first got this recipe from Mrs. Wilkie at her beauty shop.
it is so good!

but no pecans in the frosting? you may lose your Texas citizenship over this. :)
