Raisin Pie~

Raisin Pie~

1 box raisins

1 cup sugar

1 tablespoon vinegar

Cook in water until raisins are tender.

Mix~

1 cup sugar

5 or 6 tablespoon flour

1/2 teaspoon allspice

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

1 teaspoon cinnamon

Mix and add to raisins and cook slow until mixture thickens. Pour into un-baked pie crust. Add pads of butter over pie. Add top crust. Bake @ 425 30 minutes or longer. Or until golden brown.

Pie Crust~

3 1/4 cups flour

1 teaspoon salt

1 1/2 cups vegetable shortening

4 to 5 tablespoons ice water

Combine the flour and salt in a bowl. Add the shortening and work it in with your hands until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add the water, 1 tablespoon at a time, working it in with your hands. Add only as much as you need to make a smooth ball of dough. Wrap it in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. Remove the dough from the refrigerator and place it on a lightly floured surface. For 2 crusts, cut the dough in two and put the second half back in the refrigerator. For each crust, roll the dough out on the floured surface into a circle about 12 inches in diameter and 1/8-inch thick. Gently fold the circle of dough in half again so that you can lift it without tearing it, and unfold into a 9-inch pie pan.

Doesn't look like too many butter pats to me! I say you get points for even attempting a pie crust from scratch - I get help from the dough boy!

What's a homemade pie crust?????? ;-)

I've got my family thinking that Pillsbury has the monopoly on pie crusts, and the only way to get one is to visit the refrigerated/freezer aisle in the supermarket!

But, seriously, the pie looks yummy.

Brings back memories - my Memaw used to make raisin pies all the time.
Who cares what it looks like, I bet it taste wonderul!!!
Thanks for the recipe!!

I just wanted to tell you I love your blog. It makes me happy!

Tina,

I have never made or eaten a Raisin Pie. I actually think yours is the first one I have ever seen. It looks delicious!

I have just inherited some of my Grandmother's Recipe Books and I was looking through them just a couple of days ago. I noticed she had made comments on several Raisin Pie Recipes and also had added some more R P Recipes, she had cut out to save, to those pages. I was just thinking I needed to try one.

Yours looks YUMMY! I will give it a try.

Thanks!

Donna

I always enjoy visiting Cherry Hill Cottage.

I love raisin pie, and it absolutely doesn't matter how it looks.

My best friend makes sour cream raisin pie that is delicious. Have you had that kind?

Well, of course you can "like" butter. You're a skinny girl! I've never had raisin pie, now that I think of it. But that one does look awfully good. May have to try it.

Raisin is my daddy's favorite pie!

OH MY GOODNESS!
I haven't had a raisin pie in so long! My mouth is watering. It's my daddy's favorite, so every Aug.20 -his b-day- my mom would fix one.

I must try one myself.
I love your site by the way!

This pie looks so yummy I want to make it now!! When you say 1 box of raisins, what size is it? I am from Canada and they don't sell them in boxes. Thanks for the info and I look forward to baking this gem!

Oh, I haven't commented in forever! I have reading but just never really getting a change to comment. You know those days. That looks wonderful! I love raisins, I will have to try this. Also congrats to Mika!

My Gramma and my Aunt Thelma used to make lovely raisin pie like yours. Wonderful photos... I can almost tase it. Congratulations to Mika, too....

I hope all is well in Canton...the weather man just said a tornado touched down.
Keep safe.

Wow...that looks so delish! I've never had a raisin pie, but I KNOW I'd love it. I'm gonna try it for sure. I don't care if desserts are pretty or not, as long as they're yummy. LOL

Hugs!
Kat

Hope you are safe...just saw where a tornado destroyed the Canton Flea Market!

Tina,

It's Friday evening at 9:35. I just wanted to check on you....I heard that the tornadoes went through Canton but I didn't know if you were there now or not.

I live in Arkansas. We were very blessed to have not had any loss or damage where I live. Others around us have though. Hope all is well.

Take care,
Tasha
