WHO LOVES SNICKERDOODLES? .... WE DO! WE DO! ... This little cinnamon sugar cookie is our families favorite! Including my Mother~ I always double the recipe to share with Margie. She's been hinting for snickerdoodles for the past week! So, Mom your cookies are ready!
SNICKERDOODLES~
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cups butter softened
1/2 cup shortening
2 eggs
2 3/4 cups all purpose flour
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons sugar
3 teaspoons cinnamon
Heat oven to 400. Mix sugar, the butter, shortening and eggs in large bowl. Stir in flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt. Shape dough by rounded teaspoonfuls into balls. Mix 3 tablespoons sugar and the cinnamon roll balls in mixture. Place about 2 inches apart on cookie sheet. Bake until set, 8 to 10 min. About 6 dozen cookies.
I just this week washed my slipcovers for my wingback chairs ~ thought I would snap a photo of them before they got dirty again...Tulley! Again I will praise Louise Drain ~ the sweet 80ish year old lady that made these slipcovers. And she made the slipcover for my ottoman, cute little ruffle at the top and the bottom of the slip...love that! Oh, yes...she made the tablecloth too. Black and white ticking w/ toile at the hem. I bought the bobbin lace tablecloth on ebay. That great rose pillow is from Amy at Vintage-Home on ebay.
Do these green balls look familiar? Thanks Mike Edens of Stone Hills Farms~ Rt. 1 Beckville, Texas. Thank you so much for suppling me with my horse apples from your Bodock tree. I've never decorated with them in the summer...only in the fall of the year. So... to make them "summery" I added the daisy's here and there with water picks. I'm loving them in this old concrete urn. They have that great green citrus color...makes me want to paint something this color! I'm also seeing these lime green balls displayed on a fireplace mantel ~ line them close together, let's say 10 ~ straight across, right in the middle of your mantel. They wouldn't be your typical mantel adornment ~ but who wants typical?
I'm going to need more horse apples in the fall Mike ~ thanks again!
They are also called hedge apples, hedge balls, mock oranges, and green brains.
A favorite of mine...our monogram pillow. Stitched in red. Louise Drain from Tyler, Texas made the pillow slip. The pillow is just a body pillow from Wal-Mart. I love how Louise finished the ends with the buttons and the 4" ruffles. Thank you Louise~ I've loved everything you've created for Cherry Hill Cottage!
Louise made all my chair slipcovers~ they fit to perfection! She also made the majority of my favorite pillows. She did all this in her 80's. Louise is retired from sewing now.
Today is July 25...exactly 5 months until Christmas Day. How about a little Christmas in July? I found my wonderful Christmas dishes at Goodwill last week. What I so love about them are that they are just simple, not fussy. I love holly and I love that the holly is in a wreath. I got the set of 12 dinner plates, dessert plates, coffee cups/saucers for $15...
The wonderful Christmas tablecloths were bought at Canton several months ago from those two great guys with the tables piled high with vintage linens. They had one table with just Christmas tablecloths. I picked out 4 fabulous cloths that will soon be Christmas pillows!
Update: I've corrected my mistake...it was early this morning! It's not 6 months till Christmas, it's 5...
I've started a collection of cute little rose teacups on my "rose" trellis. I'm tying them on with red ribbons...So far I have just two that I found at the Hospice Shop for .25 each. I'm going to need a few dozen more to scatter all over...It will be so cottage cute! Also, you have to have a Morning Glory vine~ every cottage has to have a Morning Glory, right? Mine is doing great in this spot...love that blue!
REJOICE! And let the Lord be glad in it!
